Powder Drum Leaking

Post by Kens1911 »

Does anyone have a problem with the Auto drum throwing erratic charges? I'm use Hodgdon CFE Pistol powder. I believe mine is doing this because of leaking where the drum sits in the housing. Any suggestions?

check to see if there is a stray piece of foreign matter or a burr there. Pull the red powder holder off. check that the screw underneath is tight. clean the hex male and female part to be sure no powder is on it

Have Lee send you a "WIPER" to replace your old one which may be worn. No charge just pay S & H

I am using True Blue powder.
First use of the powder measure it leaked all over the place.
Steps I took to alleviate the problem.
Washed auto drum and all parts in hot water and Dawn dish detergent.
Cleaned powder through tube with cleaning patches and q tips.
Buffed drum insert with #600 fine sand paper. Also took rough edges off portals where powder drops.
Then mounted on press and tightened the drum until it wouldn't return, then backed off a little till it moved freely.
Then I dumped in graphite and ran the press dumping graphite for 20 times or so.
Setup and ran 400 rounds through the press the other night, Not one grain of powder leaked!
I am a very happy arm bender
