Re: Seat and crimp at the same time
To me it sounded complicated until I read the instructions 20 times, still couldn't get it so I went to a separate crimp. Others have seated all rounds then readjusted the die to crimp.

Re: Seat and crimp at the same time
This is what I do:
With the ram raised, I screw in the die till it touches the shell holder, then back it out 3 full turns. I then back the seating plug out plenty far so it doesn't hit the bullet.
Start tightening the seating plug and measure after each try till you reach just over your OAL.
I normally tighten the whole die 3/4 to one full turn down to set the crimp. You may have to tweak the seating plug out a bit, but that should get you close.

Re: Seat and crimp at the same time
I use different method wit lee dies. First thing I untight the seater plug so it wont touch anithing. Or just remove it from the die. Then I put a blanck brass (no bullett) in the shell holder and rise all ram. Screwing in the dies until it touches the brass collet give me fairly the measure of the crimping i whant to obtain. Only at this point i fit a bullet and set the oal by a progressive triala.

Re: Seat and crimp at the same time
For adjusting the combined die this is the method I use:
Create a dummy round without crimp, but correct seating depth.
With the round fully raised, back out the seating stem, and turn in the site body until the crimping ring gets contact with the case. Now adjust the die body to the desired crimp, and lock it in place. Again, fully raise the dummy into the die, and turn the seating stem in until it touches the bullet. Lower the ram, and further turn the seating stem about an eights of a turn.
Now make a new dummy round and check if the setting is correct.

Re: Seat and crimp at the same time
It works, the brass must be a uniform length. I did this for the 9mm Makarov 480 Ruger before I had Factory Crimp Dies.

Re: Seat and crimp at the same time
Used to seat and roll crimp all in the same lever swing. But anymore, I do them separate.

Re: Seat and crimp at the same time
The adjustments have to be just so. The bullet is moving when the die is crimping so the combination of movements has to be right on; the bullet is just above seating depth as the crimp starts. If the crimp is early, the case mouth will be formed around a moving bullet, often crinkling/bulging the case. I've been reloading for about 30 years and still separate the steps; seat all bullets, then crimp all. I'm not in any hurry so avoiding one step has no advantage for me...
