My Black Rifles

Post by Steve »

I just never could get interested in AR style rifles. I know some are as fine a rifle as you can get.
The picture below is my idea of what a black rifle should be. both 223 rem. These are mine. My Grandson's 223s are a Rem 700 ADL, and a Rossi single shot.

Nice, what kind of barrel is on the lower one?

Here are my black rifles, both configured as scout rifles.

Steve I agree and have one chambered in 308 Win. And every now and then I like to mix it up with a little walnut. A mini 14 would be with one in all black and one with some walnut.

RD... What base/ring/scope setup is on that savage? I'm toying with the idea of doing that with my Savage Alaskan Brush Hunter.

Here are my scary rifles..

1. DPMS Oracle on an LRB Arms Lower I put together. Hogue grip, streamlight TRL-1, and Magpul flip up sights. Collapsible stock, and single point sling mount... Don't recall the manufacturer of those last two parts. I think it makes for a nice "farm defense" rifle. I originally didn't like AR15's but it's hard to argue with the interchangeability of parts and the flood of these parts/rifles. 30 rounds of 5.56 on tap without reloading ain't nothing to sneeze at eaither.

2. Remington SPS Tactical. This came standard with a Hogue stock, 1-9" twist, 20" bull barrel for handling some of the heavier .223 bullets. On top is an SWFA SS scope. Fixed 12 power, Mil/Mil with MRAD reticle. If you haven't fiddled with Mil/Mil and MRAD on a precision rifle you don't know what your missing. This beefy little rifle pulls ground hog and feral cat duty around the farm. Once I've got a lasered distance, it's just a few clicks with the turret and the cross hairs are dead on with zero holdover. After the shot just dial back to zero.

Bunch of cool rifles popping up in this post. Both of mine are Remington 700s, I put Hogue stocks on both, also identical bases rings and scopes. They work out well when getting overwhelmed by prairie dogs.
The top rifle is the SPSV.
The second rifle is the VTR. The barrel is Remington's barrel. It is triangle shaped, it is supposed to make it more ridged. And it has a integral muzzle brake. I have made some impossible prairie dog shots with that VTR. (But nobody ever sees those. Just the ones where I miss at 20 yards.) So, just my opinion, but I think the barrel did what they were looking for.
