We will see. I loaded enough of each to be able to spend some time with them. Titegroup has always been a bit of a problem child for me in 45 Colt. I think it has to do with the charge volume vs. case volume. Lighter charges don't develop enough pressure to fully obdurate and in both the Black Hawk and the '92 case come out sooty all the way to the rim. It will be interesting, now to get a day at the range.

Make smoke,

[UPDATE]
Actually got in two range trips since I wrote the above. First to my indoor range on the 4th to try in the Black Hawk Convertible with its almost 5" barrel. Off-hand at 15 yards the cast load showed some promise the berry platted not so much.

Got to the out door range yesterday, not a real pleasant day with 90s and high humidity, but a day at the range beat most everything. These were from the Rossi '92 at 50 yards with the tang sight. First the commercial cast:

This was the second 5 holding on the bull as best I can. I'm not unhappy with this, but even with the near max load of Titegroup the cases still come out covered in soot and little tendrils of smoke curl out of the action.

Next the Berry platted 200 grain HP:

This was the better of the two patterns, likely because it was a 6 o'clock hold on the 8" bull.

So I'm still undecided about Titegroup and the big 45 but leaning toward not.

Friday I picked up a used Taurus 8in. .44mag.
Saturday Morning, threw together a handful of Lee 220g SWC over some Unique...
Boy, was I disappointed....

Darn Thing shoots better then both of My Redhawks....

And I was such a Ruger Snob....

I think Taurus has been making some excellent handguns, both pistols, and revolvers, over the last decade. I've owned conceal carry revolvers in 357 Mag, 41 Mag, 44 Mag, and 45 Colt.

Image

All were accurate and well built. The Taurus 450 45 Colt was probably my favorite.

My problem with a revolver for carry is that they are heavy in both recoil and weight. I decided to try the Rossi 351, a 38 Spl built by Taurus, and fell in love with it.

I carried and shot it so much, forsaking the other revolvers, I sold the big guys.

RD, that looks like my Rossi-made M88 ..... the only stainless gun I own.

Maybe I should make a few test rounds for it today.

Really impressed with this Taurus....

Do They make a .38 special with a 6in barrel?

Nope, doesn't look like it. 4" has been the max with the 38 Spl.

RD's Rossi 351 looks like a blue version of my M88. Only mine is old enough to have originally come with wooden grips. I swapped them out to clear the speed loaders. It's from 1982-1984 or thereabouts and was a gift/semi-sorta inheritance debt payment thank you gun (long story). Obviously old enough to have a "thinner" design lug.

I made some rounds for it today LIKE I PROMISED. Yes, be afraid. I went off guessing again. Why AutoComp? I ended up with 7 pounds of it with no real use in sight.

NOE 360180RF-GC they now have renamed 360-183-RF-AJ5
Wheel weight lead I smelted and casts air cooled at 184-ish grains nude
Hornady gas checks installed and lubed with my home made lube when sized in the LAMII to .358
Mixed used .38 Special brass selected in the 1.1470-1.1505 length range
Remington small pistol primers
4.0 grains Winchester AutoComp
1.520" OAL seated in first (longest) groove and crimped with Lee pistol FCD

Not sure why I made 14 rounds since it's a 5-shot and 14 isn't divisible by five or six.

Then I can really make that 351 trigger FINE.
I guess you can too though.

I helped the donator of this gun sell his copy by handing them mine then his saying "yours can be like mine too".
