Well it is finally over

Post by beekeeper »

Christmas time is always a trial for me.
25 Years in the Military and I was only home for 3. Not by choice it just worked out that way.

This Christmas started out as beer ,the old Lady and TV, Sure didn't stay that way long.

Lets see,
23 lb turkey
14 lb ham
5 pumpkin pies
and all the trimmings , too many to mention.

Japanese Niece and family showed up at airport , 4 people
Son and extended family down from Seattle , 8 people
Daughter and husband and grandson ,3 people
Plus Ma and me , 2 people.

Think that makes it right, 17 people in a 3 bedroom house.

Hastily set up tree , buy all the goodies,9 women in a kitchen at the same time (never again).

Well they have all gone their separate ways again and Ma and I are hopping the signs never converge again to allow it to happen.
I think the neighbors thought we had opened up a hotel at our house!
30 days total everyone was here and now the house seems deserted. I woke up this morning and didn't stumble over one of the kids sleeping in the living room in a sleeping bag.
Boy was that a comfort.

Ma, Well lets just say she told me she wasn't gonna get out of bed for a week and at 85 I do not blame her.
It will take me about 3 months to recuperate.
Anyway Day late and dollar short "MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE"

Wow. I have never had a house full for a month straight . I more than once done dinners for 20 ,36 once. The family generally only stays a week or so .

This year featured just 8 ,3 grands , daughter/SIL, the Miss, me and 1 stray. The dishes were just settled in the cupboard and the silver stowed and woosh empty house. It's a far cry from the usual 4 grands 2-5 kids 2-5 in laws half a dozen strays and 4-5 parents and grandparents. I miss the kids.

Well the last are due to leave this morning.
Japanese Nieces family will be on their way to Florida as daughter starts internship at a maternity hospital there.
Quite a family.
Niece is commercial photographer.
Husband is electrical engineer
Son is immigration officer stationed in Nagasaki.
Now Daughter will be a baby doctor.
Whole family wanted to see where Daughter would serve internship and as Japan has special bonus time called "golden time "decided to come with her.
First trip to US for whole family and was both culture shock as well as distance shock.
Niece finally figured out why we couldn't visit her daughter on the weekends as it didn't seem that far from California to Florida on the map.

Son , Wife and extended family left yesterday.

Sure is quiet around here now.
Hey just think I got to use the computer without standing in line for it.
