1st loads
Ok I have a few questions I can't seem to figure out.
1. Why do my primers look like this? They don't want to go in sometimes some I give a lil force some barely hve too. I cleaned them but they weren't Deprimed, I did that in stage 1. I am using CCI small rifle in assorted brass. With a lee classic turret.
(Sorry I'm a newb)

OK well to answer we first need more info. Do you clean your pockets with a uniformer/primer pocket cleaner it can help seat new primers.

Looks like in the top picture on the left the original primer was crimped into place. This is fairly common with 223/556 and 308/762 intended for semi auto use. You have to either swage or ream each pocket that was previously crimped after you 've deprimed. I use an RCBS swager. I wouldn't shoot that one, btw.

Re: 1st loads
Thought I better mention... The RCBS swager just goes into a single stage press like any other die. Instead of a shell holder, it has a nipple that fits the primer pocket. When you raise the ram it expands the primer pocket to the correct dimensions. It's as quick as depriming.

Re: 1st loads
Well, I haven't cleaned these specifically. I tumbled them with used primers, sorted, lubed and then started running through turret. I use lee .223 dies to deprime and resize. I then prime in the press. I was following the manual. Is there better practice?akuser47 wrote:OK well to answer we first need more info. Thank you for the response!

How can I identify these crimped primer pockets?357cyrus wrote:Thought I better mention... The RCBS swager just goes into a single stage press like any other die. Re: 1st loads
Sounds like I should maybe either sort the crimped or setup a separate primer station and just deprime and prep primer pocket before I run through the turret

Re: 1st loads
I sort all my brass by headstamp. All makes will have different volume capacities.
