Varget

Post by Melman71 »

This is the only powder I have used thus far
With some 300 gr hollow points in my .45-70
It shoots really well but usually leaves a few unspent powder flakes down the barrel, but other than that it's good, it seems like it is a versatile powder that can be used with a lot does anybody have a favorite load for any gun using varget.

Varget is a very versatile powder, one that I used with cartridge from the 30-30 Win to the 45-70 Govt. It usually does not deliver the greatest velocities but it tends to deliver the fullest case which I think delivers good accuracy and low ES & SD of both pressure and velocity.

Good deal... I love that .45-70 I have done some research and seems like that gun likes powders like the IMR 4198 ... In your opinion Ranch Dog and if you have much experience in that caliber. What powder brands have worked well for you in that cartridge?

In my Marlin 336C 30-30, max loads of Varget provide 1.5"-2", 5-shot groups @ 100yds.
