Lee Auto Prime, .45 Colt, and Starline Brass

Greetings,

This is my first post here. I'm an long time reloader and I've used my Lee Auto Prime for most of those years.
I recently started using Starline brass with the #11 shell holder that I've used for years, but all my primers were seated proud in the Starline cases. I couldn't figure it out but I did notice that there are two shell holders listed for .45 Colt. I ordered the other #14 shell holder, waited most of a week for delivery, and ran all the cases through the Auto Prime again with the #14. That fixed it?

I don't have a way of measuring the differences in the #11 and #14 but the #14 seems much snugger.

I was wondering if others have experienced this problem with this combination of components?

TIA, Will

Herzlich willkommen!

LEE marks #14 as second choice, so #11 should be the correct one.

Some of the Colts brass has a larger rim diameter and that is what the alternative holder is for . Starline may be the 1 . I believe the #14 also accommodates the 45 Schofield which has a larger rim than the Colts.
As far as the seating of the primers goes I have nothing. The only time I've had high pistol primers was when a few large rifle primers got mixed up w the large pistol primers. I have since eliminated that possibility from the bench.
