30 Caliber Case Neck Expander Made Easy!

Post by Ranch Dog »

Many cast bullets for 30 caliber cartridges are sized .310 to .311. In that the Lee 30 caliber die sets do not come with a Powder Through Expander die that helps flare the case neck for expansion, this is what I suggest. Order the .310" EZ-Xpander as a part from the 7.62x39 Pacesetter Die Set! This die set actually comes with both a .307" and .310" EZ-Xpander, the latter will make your typical 30 caliber cast bullet seating a breeze.

Do you find that the neck swages down the bullet without the neck being sized to .310" I only ask because I usually use the Lyman M die or the Lee universal expander and leave the rest of the neck as sized.

The Ez-Xpander is simply a decapping rod so the entire length of the case neck is expanded (if that is what you are asking).

just asking ..... if you expand the entire neck to .310 and load .310 bullets, are you going to have sufficient neck tension for reliability, consistency? Or, it that more dependent on consistent crimping? Or, is the .310 sized neck and .310 sized bullet a complete non-issue?

Good question but I size mine to .311 so shouldn't be a problem.

The later, but it is about seating a bullet started with zero runout. It is impossible to .310 with the normal 30 caliber expander (.307) and have it go into the case neck straight. The case mouth or neck but be enlarged one way or the other.
