Thanks guys, use it to make them old gun, and new guns purty... Give er a try.... Its something I do when passing the time in the winter when you get penned in.....

If anybody want to try it, just PM me if you got questions.. I will help ya through it.... It really is easy, takes working on it for a bit each day for a few days, than a couple hours of hand rubbing while watching a good movie, and you got something you wanna show off that you did yourself.... Just like making your own purty boolits or working up the perfect load.....

Thanks for that great write up! Never found such a good how to on stock refinishing in the German web.

I'll print that thread and put it beside my Uberti 1866 carbine that I use for CAS. It still has that ugly red, thick high gloss lacquer on it that it came with. I want to turn that into an oil finish, because that can be handled safely even when wet and looks much better that that red paint.

Just strip her down to bare wood, then you know what you have to work with... Then you can make it anything you want, like my sons 308... He wanted light color, with no gloss, and it still looked good after all of the old stuff was removed... Trouble is, he thinks that he can just bang it around with a flat finish, but dad wont allow that....
