Odd ball title but I need the info.
I have 2 Winchester model 12's in 12 gage,
A Lefiever 12 gage coach gun and a winchester 410.
All are 50 or more years old.

I do not shoot them very often and think I have enough rounds to sufice .
Would like to know about shooting steel shot in them as well as Lee slugs.

Good?
Bad?
ugly?

Put them in the safe coated in cosmoline?

Shotgunner help appreciated!

sounds to me like the potential for some fine "classics" in the making. Personally I wouldn't shoot steel or slugs in them, but that's just my opinion. I'd pick up one or two cheaper new guns like a Mossberg Maverick for a "repeater", or Rossi, H&R, or other "single" (made for modern loads) to start out with .... then move up to a real slug gun, or "steel shooter", if that's the desired direction.

It kinda brings a tear to my eye when I hear of old and older guns being damaged by "modern" ammunition.

Could be wrong, but that's my story.

Bee,
I wouldn't shoot steel in the M12s unless yours is an imp-cyl . There are several other lead subs that will get along fine. There is a tungsten matrix (read tungsten powder in a polyester or urathane base) and Bismuth , up to 3s are ok in most ''classics''. Commercial brenkke type slugs will be ok in the M12. For the Lee type slugs ,I don't really have good suggestions except that the ''key drive'' was around for 20 yr before steel came along. My Dad has shot 4'' 100 yd groups w/Brenkke slugs in his 32'' 50's vintage M12.
