I bought a few rounds from a local gun shop. About 90 total, 30 of them was primed brass the rest the shop owner doesn't know if they are reloads or factory ammo.

What would be the safest thing todo?

Safest: kinetic bullet puller, reuse brass only, and bullet if it fits the intended load. Don't use the powder.

NEVER shoot unknown ammo. Pull the bullets, dump the powder in the garden, and I would even punch out the primers since you don't know what they are either.

Well, the wrong primer might ruin accuracy but shouldn't pose harm.

I'm shocked that a gunshop sold those to you. Huge liability issue. In the future don't buy Joe Schmoe's ammo. Somebody's drunk uncle could have made them. I'd dismantle them with a puller, save the brass, and put the powder/primers in a bottle of water to render them useless. Or demand a refund.

that powder is excellent fertilizer for the pepper plants, and tomato plants.

I might be tempted to use the existing primers as seated, as long as something didn't just jump out and shout "corrosive primers".

From what he told me, he bought the gun and the ammo from one of his customers. He was under the impression that it was factory ammo. When I saw that some of the brass was primed I questioned the validity of his claim. He said he thought they were new but he can't be positive and that I should pull the bullets.

I don't have any plants but does sound like a good idea. Can I use the powder for exploding targets?? I know it's probably a stupid idea but can you? Lol

To use smokeless in that fashion is way more complicated than most think. I would not suggest it. By the time you make a detonater and case to use smokeless in it is already not worth it. Stick to tannerite formulas easy and in the grey area of the law can be made easy.
