Good News For Ohioans!

Post by 357cyrus »

Hey its what most of us have been waiting for! Sounds like we'll finally get to use "pistol cartridge rifles" in Ohio for the first time starting 2014 firearms season. Glad I got my first lever action last year when I caught wind of the new regs coming. I imagine the first year or two it might be hard to find one for a non-inflated price.

No joke! With only 100 in existence my 480 just might be THE biggest in the state. Just really glad I found mine and followed that hunch. I've already recommended Rossi 92's in 454 to a couple people. Sure would be a sweet one.

Yeah that's the next hurdle, but it looks like it's got some good momentum. Also seems we're getting some traction with constitutional carry and reciprocity. Gotta hand it to our people for making hay when the political sun is shining.

I looked on the State's website but I could not find a list of the allowed cartridges or how they define what is legal. When you know where to look, please post it here and on the Rossi-Rifleman forum.

If I was in the business, I would ordered a hundred R92 chambered in 44 Mag and make them into Ohioan Whitetail Commemorates!

It is still being written into an official document to be then submitted for the revision to ohio hunting restrictions. It is coming together from what I've been reading here is more info direct from ohio website go down to almost 5th paragraph it lists calibers so far to be proposed.

Wow, they are including some big cartridges as well: 375 Win, 444 Marlin & 45-70 Govt! Good on them. 375cyrus needs to fire the off an email as the 475 Linebaugh listed but not the 480 Ruger!

Since a handgun in 480 Ruger has been legal in the past, I'm content with, "The proposed rifles are the same caliber and use the same straight-walled cartridges that are currently legal for use in handguns. The proposal is designed to allow additional gun-hunting opportunities for hunters that own these guns or want to hunt with these guns." Here's the link that shows you the Ohio's rules for what previously made the cut. http://www.ohiodnr.gov/wildlife/dow/reg ... #equipment

That is real good news for Ohioans. Some very nice "pistol" cartridges listed in the first link. I suppose they are gambling that the pistol or straight wall cartridges have the same distance capabilities as shotguns with slugs, etc.? That is usually the thinking when hi-power rifles are not allowed.
