Oh my!.
This is one "hobby" I have purposely stayed away from. I know if I tried flying I'd get hooked and there's no way I could afford an airplane, even a home built "experimental" craft. Doubt if I could afford renting either. My Dad was in the Air Force and told stories of flying, and my son-in-law owned a plane for a few years (but he was distributing drugs with his) and I knew I would like it. So, I played with boats, which barely fit my income levels..

There are some cheep ways to get into it. Get a share in a small older plane. Get something like a Taylorcraft (many below $25,000) Get friends that are instructors to teach you. Learn procedures and instruments on Microsoft flight simulator X . I haven't flown in many years, but the most fun I had was 4 hours of aerobatic instruction. Loops, rolls, immelmann, split S, spins . If I sell the farm in the next few years, I will probably get a plane.

Then the next goal is not to "buy the farm!" Couldn't help myself.

Reading through that was my very thought as well .
Don't sell the older 35 Bonanzas short the B,C,D models are actually great aircraft and with a knowledgeable mechanic that doesn't work for a Beech dealer very cheap to keep and fly as long as the inspections are done right and you don't need ruddavators or ailerons . Top overhaul on the 0-470 is about 5k done right but you'll cover 150-200,000 miles on one and probably do it twice and get 3,000 on a major or new engine . They will get you cross country at 140 mph on an average of about 8-9 GPH . Reno to Salt lake City is an 8-10 hr drive of 500 miles . It's under 4 hr to fly and only about 425 miles . Sure you burned an extra 12 gallons of gas but you can be back to Reno before the guy driving gets to SLC .

For the last 6 weeks I thought I might be buying the farm. I got sick , high fever headaches no energy sore joints, most likely from a tick bite. Dr put me on oral antibiotics, and after about 16 days I was no better. Dr. sent me to a infectious disease specialist. He put me on 4 days of IV steroids and 30 days of IV Ceftriaxone.
I have the med warming (it must be kept refrigerated) in my top pocket and will attach it to my IV port in about 30 min. My last dose will be tomorrow. All of my values on my blood tests have finally come back to normal. So it looks like I can sell the farm rather than buy it.

Dang farmer! Glad you are the mend. The world sure has changed, tick bites were a common thing growing up but not now. Hell, standing in the Gulf of Mexico wade fishing can rot your leg off.

I figure I've got about another 5 years left on the ranch, and then it is on to whatever is next in my life. This year has been grueling. The heat and lack of rainfall have been horrific, yet, 100 miles to the northeast the land is drowning.

I've been keeping detailed climate figures on my place to for the last 15 years. This year compared to my average rainfall, we have only had 11" this years and should be at the 30"+ mark right now. The heat has been a steady, measurable rise as well.

My gawd a Mix Master? Who'd a thunk. I was thinking more like Dodge Truck.

One of my Favorites, and My Dad sold used Airliners and other planes for Alan Paulson 30+ years ago. I got to go on a Cross Country with him to drop a Sky Master off in Dallas TX. Then we flew back in an Aerostar that Alan had bought,,, it was a fun few days. Dad knew everybody in the Aviation Business back then. I met some interesting people.

I got my Jeep Project up and running and on the road on July 3,,,it is different.

My 70th is in November. I will probably get a Steak Dinner. No Airplane :(
