Thanks for the info. Nice looking shotgun!Macd wrote:Cooey Model 840 12 gauge, full choke 28 inch barrel made in Cobourg Ontario. Cooey was bought by Winchester in the 1960's.Ranch Dog wrote:What make and model is your shotgun Macd?
My first firearm was a single shot, full choked, long barrel 20 Gauge from Sears & Robuck. That's what I started with, killed a lot of geese with that shotgun as a young kid.

Re: Cold Blueing
My first was an H&R Topper, single shot 12ga, don't remember the barrel or choke.
Even with a recoil pad, that old thing beat me to death, but deadly on dove,
Jack rabbit & quail.

Re: Cold Blueing
I have used the Oxpho blue liquid on several barrels over the years and always had good results. Depending on your results, multiple coats and rubbing with fine steel wool in between coats can help. Cleaning really well and getting an even metal prior to application, it comes out really well. I always coat with thick oil and let it soak afterward. I have even used it for 'touch ups' and it works well.
Reduce, reuse, recycle, means- resize, reload, recycle.

Re: Cold Blueing
Use copper wool with heavy oil before you walk away (after you've neutralized and cleaned).
