Thank You Jeff H! I do have and use Wilson Trimmer for most of my trimming needs. So your suggestion is a "DUD" moment for me.I've used to use the LEE case length gauges and never had a complaint and still don't. But I gave LarryW my RCBS case prep center and and recently started using the L E Wilson that had just been collecting dust.

(Actually saying "I gave" Larry anything is an error as we trade stuff back and forth all the time. All of our reloading tools are kinda sorta mutually "OUR stuff". Larry is the BRAINS and I'm a pain in his ...!)

But as RD points out the case holders for most "tiny" case are the Q-Type which preclude having access to the the primer end. So thus the soft jawed pliers will still be helpful. For progressive reloading primer pocket prep is almost mandatory even for my blue press.

Well I've got to goto bed. Jet lag is alive and real.

Ah, yes, the Q-type............... PITA.

I have to use that for the 357s because no way will a case (sized or not) fit into the regular one.

As for the smaller/shorter cases, Michael, I get it. I've never reloaded 9mm, but lots and lots of 45 ACP. Definitely not the answer in that case - no pun intended.

I bought a bag at Sears 20 or more years ago. Here are some on ebay, they usually list others at the bottom of the page.

We all know what this is. If I had access to a mini-lathe this could be the inspiration for the shell holder we are discussing. Turned from aluminum with a narrower shank with no handle, larger and deeper chuck opening with plastic, compressible inserts to fit a range of shells and a nylon nut to reduce weight it could be chucked in a drill or power screwdriver. I would think a drill press would work very well. Then again it might not work at all.

Now that's an idea. I bet it could be done via 3D as you can do nuts and bolts with fine threads.

The case just slides into in, mount first, a slight twist to tighten it. It wouldn't need to be padded it it was 3D.

The following might be a good starting point for this project...

OpenSCAD source code for the collet is available in the Thing Files section. Design of the individual inserts should be trivial using a tool like OpenSCAD.
