Yea unless you have watched a lot of old gangster movies. I can see misunderstanding the headline on this thread. If you've ever shot one they are accurate and a good one is reliable. The downside is they are heavy and manipulating the magazines is different than most modern guns but not horrible. I love themGRV01 wrote:Kept skipping this thread because at a glance i was thinking, "guy collects antique typewriters. Okay, cool."

Re: New toy: Chicago typewriter
I love the double feed mags. Loading the 30th round in a XXX stick mag is easier than loading the 7th round in a 1911 mag.
It's unfamiliar at first, that pulling the bolt back and inserting a mag makes the gun ready to fire without dropping the bolt again.
But it's a quite accurate gun, the weight helps a bit keeping it on target when shooting quick.
Next week in on vacation, but the week after next I got booked a few hours on the range. Will do some testing and maybe show off a few pics and videos.

I would be interested in seeing any stamps or marks on the barrel, receiver or stock.

I can do some pictures of that, too, when I'm in the range.
There's a lot of text on these guns, but the serial number is hidden well .

Re: New toy: Chicago typewriter
Had the old lady on the range yesterday. Great fun to shoot, even as an open bolt gun, the heavy mass and the Cutt's comp do their work to keep it on target. Spits fire out of every opening, which was a bit distracting when light was low later on the evening. The Lyman L-sight is terrible... it's actually set up well, but the aperture is so large, it's difficult to center on a small target. The Lyman adjustable sight is ordered, and I will replace it. From the serial number I learned it's a gun built by Savage.
Light on the range was too low to get pictures, so I tried to take some at home, but only had my phone at hand. With all these roll stamps the gun nearly qualifies as a book...
