New toy: Chicago typewriter

I finally managed to get one of the very last original Thommy guns in Germany.

It's an open bolt semi auto conversion of an original 1928A1 Thompson submachine gun. It has the Cutts-compensator, and accepts drum magazines. But unfortunately it doesn't have the finned barrel, vertical front grip or adjustable Lyman sight. I already ordered a repro front grip and an original Lyman sight, but the barrel will need to stay pear shaped for now. Because of German laws it's pinned in place and can't be removed.

I also got a couple magazines (which I need to convert to ten rounds), but no drum. These are at least 450 dollars recently for repro, if you find one at all. Originals are even more expensive.

I can't wait to go to the range... But it won't be before the second half of October.

And I need to get another set of dies to load jacketed ball ammo for it. I bet it'll go through my stock too fast to buy factory ammo.

The voracious appetite of full autos and the archaic laws here have so far helped me resist the temptation. Although a semi auto version would be nice and fun.

Enjoy,
Make smoke,

You know the 45 ACP shoots cast just fine . :)

I had a chance at a 1928A1 also (1927 I think was the full auto) , had 2 sticks , a drum , and the violin case . The $1700 at the time was out of the question ......2800 now is just as bad .

Just a little bit green .

I can't remember if it was on the old tv show "Combat" or "Rat Patrol" .... maybe both ..... the officer of the squad carried the same style Thompson (with stick magazines). I absolutely fell in love with that gun when I was a kid.
