Hi Guys
Needed to load 9mm. Bought box of Hornady 115gr XTP. Using WSF Powder.
Checked Lee book and Hogdgen online. Neither have info for WSF powder for this particular bullet. Most if not all books call for a COL of 1.169 for WSF powder.
Lee does not have a WSF listed for 115 XTP and Hogdgen calls for JHP (similar point as XTP) at COL 1.125
Anyone have any advise

Never seen that, the COL is usually determined by the bullet not the powder, for a particular cartridge.

Just went and looked and that is how it is listed on Hodgdon's website. Don't know their reasoning for it other than to reduce the pressure. If you load that long, you do need to check and make sure your bullet is not engaging the rifling of your barrel. That will give you over pressure too.

As far as advice, I would think about changing powder, HP-38/W231 give very similar performance (on paper) to what is listed for WSF.

Bullets with large hollow points take up more case space compared to a regular bullet of the same weight as they may be deeper seated in the case. In a 9mm this means higher pressures. Lee specifically mentions this on page 158 of the second edition manual. My own experience is this is borne out by higher velocity and more felt recoil. I shot two lots of Berry's bullets, both 124 grain, a RN and a HP. OAL's were 1.120 and 1.060 respectively. This placed both bullets just off the lands of my M&P9. The HP was seated deeper in the case to get it to this position. The results were that the HP's averaged 30-70 FPS greater velocity for the same charges of W231. I kept the maximum load for the HP to 0.2 grains below the RN and it still showed a slightly higher FPS. No experience with WSF but checking the Hodgdon site shows that the 115 JHP shows higher velocity and greater pressure for the same C.O.L and maximum load of WSF as the FMJ bullet. This is inline with my own results.

For experimental purposes I loaded 15 rd ea. of 5.2, 5.4 gr @ 1.125 COL and 10 rd of 5.6 gr @ 1.169 COL
If my hand survives, I will let you guys know what the outcome is.

I am pretty sure I posted this but.....

I went the other way with 9X19. I made my OAL longer for my P95 and added powder over the book recipe to make up for the extra case space. I crawled up to the load slowly and checked it for accuracy.
