Battling hogs

I've been waging war this past seven days with a large sounder of sows, and small pigs who are terrorizing my place during the middle of the night. In a weeks time, this has become a serious operation to eliminate them. I sat down an drew up a battle plan so that I could manipulate them into coming to the house every night where I can engage them under lights. Once they are here, the only escape route is across an area I call "the swamp" and I've been baiting that area with the hog carcasses to hold three coyotes in the area to pick off the piglets as they run through the swamp. Everything is working as planned, in seven days time I've shot fourteen.

Two nights ago, I finally got the last sow which is going to make the clean up much easier as that eliminates the sounder's knowledge base. That night I had also switched to a 12 Gauge shooting Express BBs as the smaller hogs tend to group up directly below the feeder. I even patterned my shotgun to see what distance I needed to be to keep all the BBs within the confines of the feeder legs. When they came in, I decided to focus more on getting the sow which would not come under the feeder. I stalked into 35 yards and waited for several to get lined up. Worked better than I thought. At the shot, four dropped stone dead!

Now I know you are going to ask why BBs and not buckshot. Eazy, I don't want to take out the feeder legs or drill a hole through them. The BBs won't do that.

Now you got me thinking, I wonder if my processor can do hot dogs. I have to keep thinking about how variety rather than everything one way. I do love a good hot dog.

One of my friends makes his own sausage from the hogs he kills on his property. His grinder and meat saw went underwater in the flood a few weeks ago, and I don't know if they still work. The walk in cooler is fixed and ready to hang meat, but most of the hunters that use it are off duck hunting down below Venice, LA.

Sounds excellent, but is it true that wild hog fat isnt tasty like commercial pig and adds off flavors to the meat?
