Re: Use liquid alox on black powder bullets?
I Keep a old GI canteen and cup in the truck in the summer I put the canteen in the bed of the truck to heat the water while I am shooting. In the winter I heat the water with a alcohol stove I made. I used this stove to heat my lunch the last 20yr I worked. I shave some soap into the hot water. I put a tooth pick in the nipple fill the barrel half way with soapy water give it a good shake swab the barrel dump the water out then patch the barrel out. I finish up with Ed's Red home made bore cleaner. His a pic of my cleaning rig. It is all so good for making a cup of coffee.

Cool tools! Weird how the Tapatalk handler is inverting the picture. It is something on their end.

I also wrapped some mini ball, real and maxi ball with white Teflon tape. They are easy to carry and clean to work with. Anybody else try it or what comments?

I did when I was fire forming brass for a 30-30AI. I used the Lee .311 round balls as projectile instead of bullets.Mike 56 wrote:Have you ever tried it with a round ball?

You know I almost bought a box of .310 at BPS the other day. I might have to try some.
Re: Use liquid alox on black powder bullets?
Have never used alox in one of my BP guns but have tried just about anything anyone recommended.
Settled on beeswax and olive oil 50/50 and it works great.
When I started I wanted a lube that would be as close to the original as possible and the beeswax/olive oil comes pretty close.
During the process I made a lot of lube that I now use when I am smelting.
The old Mausers that I shoot were designed to be shot during battle and cleaned when you had time.
I routinely get 30-40 shots before I even consider cleaning the bore.
I used to use Goex Powder until I lost my supplier and now use BP called Diamond back ( made in the old Elephant factory).
I get more fouling now but for the kind of shooting I do it works great.

I am guilty, and use alox and tumble lube all my 50 call stuff for my traditions deer stalkers.... It is fast and easy, and who cares if it is smokier then other lubes, it is a muzzie... Between that and my homemade black powder, it aint gunna matter... It just works.... Wet or dry...
