Perhaps someone smarter than I am can give me an answer. I started priming some .223 range brass today with the Auto Prime XR. Brass has been de-primed, tumbled, trimmed, etc. The brass is Federal and Lake City.
The trouble is the Federal brass primed as expected, but the LC brass was difficult to say the least. Some of the primers got cocked, some were very hard to seat and some wouldn't seat. I have used the Auto Prime a lot on different cartridges including .223 and never have I had this happen.
It appears that the LC brass is military 5.56 as there was a lot trimmed as compared to the FC. Any ideas?

LC - military brass. primers were crimped in. you can deprime easy. but primer won't go until you remove the crimp on the primer pocket. numerous tools/options on how to do this

I failed to mention that in preparing the cases I removed the crimp from the primer pocket. Also, these were CCI primers.

You might need to uniform the pocket after using the crimp tool. I have both the Lyman and K&M but very much prefer the latter. The link is to MidwayUSA which is out of stock but I'm sure it is available elsewhere.

This reminds me that I'm need to figure out a mount for the K&M so that I can use it on my Lyman Case Prep Center.

Funny, I have Lyman & RCBS primer crimp removers and prefer the latter. In both case the cutting with the two non-Lyman tools is "slicker".

On 223 primer pockets:

I remove the crimp grove, true the bottom, reamer cuts inside diameter as well as cut the proper size chamfer, finally I swag the primer pocket to make sure there are no burs.

After doing this all but a few prime snug and below flush.

I have occasionally found ones that had to reamed out a second time/more aggressively... And, I am lazy. If there are a bunch that bad/hard to do, I would just toss them...

Thanks everyone for the tips. I purchased the Lyman pocket reamer, got rid of the military crimps and can resume reloading.
