I have on several time run new starline brass and other range picked up brass that was sized and run them thru a progressive press and only found it easier (took much less force) to run them thru the process than a once fired case would. So once again I will repeat what I said above; Something is strange if they fit the chamber and not the resizing die. Even if there was some kind of case processing agent on the cases and they fit the chamber then they will fit and be able to be resized with either of the dies you mentioned. Send me a couple of these "new" cases. I'd like to measure them. I also doubt that either of, or both of the dies are defective.

I agree and just don't see how it fits in the gun but not in the die?

I have a pile of unsized new Starline .357 brass here. I guess I could try them in my Lee set and measure before and after. My dies are 3-4 years old. The brass is about one year old. I have a nice vintage RCBS? set too if that helps.

I can do nearly any test that would help.

all - thanks very much. doesn't seem right to me either, but the new, untumbled brass definitely cycles through the rifle fine.

back at ya. two cases on the way. one untouched (except by my hands) and the other run up into my lee carbide die.

That's easy several of my carbide dies make coke bottles out of cases the Colts are the worst offender the chamber in the carbine is probably. 486 while the BlackHawk is more like .480-1 and the sizer ring is closer to .470.

so the answer is not to resize? use non-carbide dies and lube? or something else?

Measure the unsized Starline brass. Measure a sized case. How much is the OD being reduced? Perhaps try a couple without the decapping stem in place, just a WAG but the pin may be interfering with something.
