Another Whistle Pig Down

Post by 357cyrus »

I was walking the dogs around my place yesterday and as we approached the wood/tractor shed a groundhog scrambled and made a dive under the door. Opened it up and it had already made it out another tunnel in the back and off into the woods. I set a live box trap on the inside of the shed with the mouth right up against the tunnel so that next time whistle piggy tried that maneuver it'd dive right into the trap. The next day after work I opened the door and there she was waiting on me. One pop to the dome with my single six and it was all over. Skinned her out and now I've got enough other pelts saved up to try a battery acid/salt tanning method I've been reading about that sounds a lot simpler than other methods I've seen. Maybe I'll make a varmint snuggie!

Well done. I mentioned setting out a trap to catch some coons. It worked real good. Didn't get a single one in the trap but ended up shooting 9 of them while they were fiddling with the trap!

Nicely done!
Hunting groundhogs is my absolute favorite sport. That was the one thing I looked forward to when I was mowing my grandfather's farm. I would hop on the tractor, slide my Marlin model 60 into the space beside the seat and away I would go.
