It's not a bell shape. It expands the case mouth in a cylinder shape that holds the bullet for seating. Order the one that has the expander just larger than the bullet and you should be good.

Kinda like this.
No, it uniforms the case mouth to the desired diameter. There is nothing good about a belled case mouth.

I had to go back and edit what I said about the 38P model. I would have sworn I used the Pro Auto with it but clearly I did not as the insert's body seems too long for the Pro Auto to screw into the die body. Don't know how I made that mistake but I wanted to fess up with it.

I find it interesting that the 38P is no longer listed:

I may be wrong (nothing new there) but I thought usually when a product was out of stock it would just say zero next to it.

im still confused as to what dimension is what
today i ordered a 10mm and a 38ap PTX
using the 10mm as a example, what dimension is what?

10mm Cal. expander plug .398" x .402"

by my reckoning the .398" is the first segment
and the .402" is the little lip

if this is the case then the .398" is .004" smaller then the .402" that
i need for the .403" bullets i need

have i gone goofy? :?

I visited with Al Nelson today and I did ask him if they where going to expand the expander plug line. I'm looking for a bunch of new sizes. He has just added another large lathe and this is one of the things that it will be used for. He also told me that he is expand the diameters available and make two lengths so the user can select what they need.

With that said maybe those listed are the old product line. I really don't know, only Al could answer this really.

I'm pretty sure that the specificed range is the minimum and maximum diameter that the tool can provide. I don"t think that is will provide the .403".

guess when it gets here
ill have my buddy add the needed amount of hard chrome
i use the Lee 401-145-swc
and its not a very tall banded bullet
so im betting the expander depth will be okay

this started when i got a replacemnt barrel for my S&W 410
after i had bulged the factory barrel  (i have a whole story telling what not to do)
and after i got the new one i had bad leading
so today i slugged it and wow .4017"-.402"

so now i need new stuff!

No way a .403" bullet will fit. Mine are sized to .401" and it's almost too snug of a fit. Every now and then I find one that doesn't fit and I have to dump the powder and run it through again. This usually gets it but not always. But it's rare it doesn't fit.
