I need a tight screw on my mold.

How do you keep the sprue plate screw tight? Lock Tight but then how do you keep it oiled? Maybe a set screw?

Loctite is not going to do any good, won't survive the heat. Drilling and tapping for a set screw is the only way I know to do it if it will not stay tight.

Are the new generation of Lee molds coming with set screws? I bought a HP converted Lee mold and noticed the sprue plate's screw has a set screw. But I don't know if that was added during the conversion process or if that's a Lee upgrade in the latest version.

Not that I know of. Bet it was added during the conversion.

If you drill and tap your molds for a set screw place a small piece of copper wire in the hole before you put the set screw in.
It will keep from ruining the threads on the hold down screw by the set screw (hope that made sense)
The copper wire will squeeze down and hold the Sprue screw and keep the concave end of the set screw from marring the threads of the sprue screw allowing it yo be removed if needed to clean the blocks or bottom of the sprue plate.
Works for me anyway!!

That is a great idea and yes I understand. Now I have to wonder if that is all that is needed for the sprue plate screw, getting the handles off is proving to be a real pain so think I'll try copper wire on the the screw before drilling.

Please observe that the new new Lee bullet moulds have left hand thread on the sprue plate screw.
But dont worry it will come (and stay) loose just as fine as the right hand threaded ones!
So either way most all moulds need a set screw.
And the handles pinned in place also.
