Pistol Class

Post by Steve »

This Saturday 4 lucky ladies and 1 guy are going to make up my pistol class. My gun-slinging daughter is going to help me with the class, so I'm really looking forward to it. These people are taking the class so they can get their Iowa Permit To Carry Weapons. When the ladies see how well Sheila can shoot her 40 it should put them more at ease with learning. I wish more ladies carried.

My Iowa class pretty much mirrors the Utah required curriculum for the Utah Concealed Firearm Permit. The difference being which state law is explained/discussed. I like Utah's requirements, on the other hand you can fulfill the Iowa requirements by taking a class on the internet.
(I have mixed feelings about that, I support the second amendment but feel better with people that have some type of weapons training)

My class with range time takes a minimum of 8 hours and if any of them want I stay and help them late on the range. I make sure they can safely handle their weapon and can put a reasonable amount of rounds on target at close ranges. When they leave they at least know they have to practice, and they have a understanding of our laws. That's about all I can get done in one day. There has been a few of them take me up on coming back for free to receive more help on the range. But many don't want to shell out the money for ammo.... Oh Well.

Good to know but what did you have to do to become an instructor.

Now until you mentioned your daughter I figured you were the "Lucky guy" :D

I really should get a concealed carry just to make it easier to buy new toys!
An ignorant person is one who doesn't know what you have just found out.

When setting a job up for myself it must be Idiot Proof as well, as I am a bigger idiot than most people I know, and I prove it to myself everyday.

NRA Instructor training at "Safe Shoot" in Independence, Mo.
Utah Instructor classes with the Utah BCI in Salt Lake City, UT.

Had the class today. Setup at 7 AM, and it was darn near 7 when we got back from the range. One lady was sick so she didn't show. That left us with only a class of 4. (Not in this to get rich) It was really great, they all wanted to learn everything in one day. The questions were coming so fast I started to loose my voice by 2:30 when they let me finish up so we could leave the council room and head for the range.

I always feel good when I see their faces when they begin shooting groups. All were shooting better than the average beginners when we finished up. I plan on seeing all of them in the future for more practice.
