Odd die , good outcome .

Nope it's not a Lee die , it is an RCBS . I haven't seen one like this , apparently it is the original design . Imagine a threaded conical compression lock on a smooth decapping pin and expander .


I sent a message to RCBS inquiring about the age and a name/die set , the result is that it is an RS series die . In an unexpected result they took my information and are sending refit current production parts .

Other deductions .
They used a Letter for year starting in 49' with A for production dating , but switched to 2 digit in 65' with 65 being first . This die is suffixed with an R , and no number ..... appearently it wasn't consistent the first few years or they recut a bunch of low demand dies for new higher demand stuff . This one has no number so it should be pre 65' R makes it 67' . The Marlin/Rem gig using BLACKPOWDER vs alphabet would make it a 1960 and that fits better .

No bashing or bragging just sharing new knowledge . (I remember stuff better if I write it down )

Interesting. Is the cone slotted? Does the cone go into the nut or the die? I like "old" tools and many times while being "over designed" they work better than "new and improved"...
