Lee six cavity molds

Post by malar »

I love my Lee six's, but I can't get my head around why Lee doesn't offer more?
I'd like to see some in 30 cal seriously the small bullets would work.
They make the 35-200 and molds for the 7.62X39. Why not others?!

Welcome to the forum.

Not sure why. Lee has made a number of custom six-cavity molds for me between .22 and .32.

I would love a heavy 30 cal in a 6 cavity.

That would be fantastic if they cut all of the designs that would fit in 6C and the rest in 3-4Cs .

I have a love/hate relationship with the 6 cavity molds. I love them when they are new, but hate them after about 6 months. After few thousand bullets, I get scoring between the mold and sprue cutter plate at the bolt. This makes enough of a gap to cause flash at the edges of the castings.

I lubricate mine every time I pour, with a rag soaked with 2 cycle oil.

I fix them by taking them apart, and flat surface wet sanding the top of the mold and sprue plate, and then spend a little time getting them to mate properly.

PB there is a guy on the Castboolits forum that makes steel sprue handles and plates for the 6C moulds . I can't remember his name now Rock or Red river maybe it was Randy Rat .....

He donated a few several years the the Nevada cast bullet shoot , NCBS , for prizes . I claimed 1 each to have for spares and installed them just a short time later when I broke a handle .

I've taken to breaking the bottom of the sprue holes so I think they will turn up instead of down into the mould top . I haven't experienced the gouging on the 6C moulds like the 2 C's that don't get leemented . Maybe I haven't used them enough yet .

Thanks for the idea.

I could probably make a steel sprue plate for my 6 Cavity mould, as I do a lot of metal work. I'd like to replace the screw with a bearing, but a normal ball bearing probably wouldn't hold up to the heat. I know an Oilite bearing would cook.
