Re: Custom Seating Stems - Question
This is pretty cool. I know I have stems that really imprint rings on some of my bullets. It be nice to have more options for certain bullet types to.

Re: Custom Seating Stems - Question
Sometimes just twirling the plug on a fine sanding sponge will take off the edge. In fact I have done that on all seating plugs in my dies.akuser47 wrote:This is pretty cool. Re: Custom Seating Stems - Question
A little more info on the seating stem linked by buckeye - I'm the designer and have seated well over a thousand rounds with that stem printed in PLA.
I also use printed top punches for my Lyman 45 - again for thousands of rounds with no wear. I've even crushed a bullet in the sizer that wasn't placed correctly with no damage to the punch.
If anyone needs a stem for a different bullet profile, leave a comment on Thingiverse and I'll post up a new model
As time permits I will be posting more models for seating dies for common cartridges - again drop a comment if there is a specific request.

If you know someone local to you with a printer, just send them the link to print and buy them a beer.jdl447 wrote:Hello pastera. I’ve a got a question for you about how do I go about getting an item that I would like to have made that is on Thingverse?

Check your local library and community college - a lot of them have printers that you can use free or for very low cost.
Otherwise, the link you posted is exactly what you need - just select one of the three "apps" and "launch" the app.
For that part I would suggest nylon or ABS if you are paying to get it printed - PLA is easy and cheap to print but doesn't stand up to heat as well as the other plastics.
For the layer height and infill, I would use 0.1mm or lower layer height and 30-50% infill.

Re: Custom Seating Stems - Question
If I can find the profile online, or if the profile is defined like a 2R tangent ogive, then no I don't.Ranch Dog wrote:To design a stem, do you need a bullet in hand?
If it isn't online or self defined, a good clear picture with a 6" scale is usually close enough.
Also need the length and diameter of the current stem (pictures help) because every die manufacturer is different.
For crazy wildcats, I can work from case drawings to make the entire seating die and stem.
