A small but important difference in the shoulder...Ranch Dog wrote:...but I don't understand why someone hasn't ever sold a die that simply matches the SAAMI chamber cut instead of the SAAMI cartridge drawing. Just call it a 303 British Fireformed, but maybe that would be too simple.

One bullet source I had considered was Hawk, their 215-grain round nose. I contacted the guy, but he said it would take several weeks to fill the order so I ordered the Woodleighs.

Re: SMLE Scout and Jacketed Bullets
Loaded up the remainder of new cases in this lot of brass with Trail Boss for fireforming. The Trail Boss flowed well through Lee's Deluxe Perfect Powder Measure as long as it received a finger tap at the top of the stroke. Trail Boss is not a powder I would use in any progressive or semi-progressive loading operation. It bridges quick, about like dumping oatmeal.
Game cameras continue to reveal a lack of hogs on my place, but I will get the SMLE Scout tuned in and ready for when they do.

Neat drawings. I know you have probably mentioned it but what software are you using to produce them?

TMT's Precision Load Records. I have all of his software, been using it for at least 15 years.Macd wrote:Neat drawings. I know you have probably mentioned it but what software are you using to produce them?

Re: SMLE Scout and Jacketed Bullets
Check this out. I shot the 100% density loads of Trail Boss. Could not get the Labradar to pick up the "bang" to trigger the radar. I shot two times at 50-yards, didn't think the bullet was reaching the target. Same at 25 yards, three shots. Definitely not reaching the target. Check this out on my handgun range at 7 yards, 4" low! Tight and centered though.
It did a great job of forming the brass and in the future, I will just take 10 bullets and shoot them into a bucket so that I can reuse them for this task. I had 10 cases left to form, $3 to do that work.

Re: SMLE Scout and Jacketed Bullets
Dang, that's a lot of drop. Wonder how fast they were going - 200 fps?

My experience with TB is it is very consistent but of course it is not going to win any velocity awards.

Straight down!klr wrote:...how fast they were going...
QuickLoad had suggested 1355 FPS. It will be a bit before these cases cycle back through the full-length cycle, but I will use a traditional chronograph to get the velocities. Just curious. Trail Boss did what needed to be done!
