I am in a process of restoring a 1916 Spanish Mouser that I picked up in a cosmetically poor but mechanically good condition.
This being an older rifle, I prefer not to use commercially loaded ammo but light hand loads.
I would like to use it on the range for just very light load target shooting. The only bear hunting with this rifle will be on paper target
It is chambered in 7x57 Mauser.
Lee has a 130grn mold for it.
Has anyone used this bullet?
What loads would you recommend (light)?
Lyman's manual only has loads for 160grn cast bullet. But I don't know if I want to spend $80 for their mold plus handles.

Re: 1916 Spanish Mouser loads
The first step is to find out how big the grooves are .
I haven't put the 285-130 in anything as of now . For just plinking I'd start out with 5-6 gr of Unique and go on up to group failure or 12 be which ever comes first.
As far as another mould goes , I'd send you to NOE , for $15-20 more you get a 4-5 C mould that casts the advertised size , runs just as easy as the iron mould , weighs less and fits Lee 6C handles . As an added bonus if you have a problem and you send them an email or call them you will talk to Al Nelson CEO and head machinist.

4 cavity 2 gas check 2 plain base . $92
6 cavity commercial handles $13.49
http://www.titanreloading.com/mold-melt ... ld-handles
There are other bullets available and the NOE 2 cavity can be had for 79 and 86 for a 3 cavity . Even count moulds are generally available as 2+2 , 1+1 or all plain based or all gas check . The Lee handles also fit the 2,3,4&5 cavity moulds . They also have the Lee handles on the NOE site but I think $17 . NOE ships flatrate boxes and pouches . Tracking and typically 5 days from a Friday order to cast bullets in hand .
