Too much bell

Post by Deadp007 »

So, I'm pretty new to this and already made a stupid mistake. I took some advice found on here and first decap, hand prime then use the press to Bell/powder and seat the bullet.
I switched carriers to 45 acp, (but left the inactive powder/Bell die on the turret) long story short, my brass got belled so much when I went to reload them, they wouldn't fit in the seat die  :o so...yes I'm an idiot but are the cases trash or is there a way to save them?

You could try running back through the resizing die.

As buckeye suggested try the sizing die, if they will squeeze in to it you're good and don't forget to lube the cases. If they are to expanded to fit the die see if you have another die a little bigger that you can use to start reducing the bell then the sizing die. Tedious, I know but we learn from our srew ups and we've all made our share. You may find that the case life is shortened a bit but with luck you'll get back to usable brass.

I went out and measured the opening on my 45 Auto sizing die and it is .479". Can you measure how wide the flare?

Sure, I'm at work until 1900 CST
Thanks to all for all the help in the meantime :)
I feel sooo dumb but will measure how bad they are over belled when I get home, but I think it's more than .479"

The opening on my 45 Auto PTE die is .503" so they cannot be any larger than that! ;)

How many cases are we talking about? New or range pickup?

Lol, OK! So last night, I did put the sizing die back on, but pulled out the decapping pin from the collet. The brass wouldn't even fit in it!
But, after reading here I was really confused, so I got off work and came home and....drumroll (I bet some of you probably guessed it!).......I somehow managed the grab my 9mm decap die!!!! (I warned you that I'm an idiot).
Sooooooo after switching too the proper die everything ran smoothly, I loaded up 100 LSWC and went to the range. THANK YOU GUYS!
