I am finishing up a 358 Win on a Santa Barbara 98 action with of all things I believe it is a Shielen 358 1-14 twist bbl . I purchased bottom metal and a hodge podge of parts from basic custom to salvage retail and a early 70s Fajen "finished " stock . It is coming together nicely and 358 Win should provide sufficient thump for almost anything in the south eastern quarter of the country.
The rub ....... is the bullet. The 35-200 has been recommended a lot . Is it close enough to the Lee copy to call it good ? Is the bore ride .350 ? I would sure rather buy $60 6C than the other comparable moulds . NOE is worth every penny, but more money for even a 2C though I get the choice of PB and /or GC in the same mould. RCBS is the same price or more fore a 2C also . Hmmm sounds like a money hang up...... it's not really. The nod goes to Lee for the nifty sprue handle .
Anyway anybody have/had/used 1 and or have other suggestions for loads or bullets.
Working on a new "modern" thumper .

When you try to tickle me with a new thread but don't post a pic to show what you are talking about
Seriously, I don't even care if it's still just a pile of parts. I (stupidly) passed up a good deal on a Win 88 in .358 years ago because I didn't know what I was being offered. I was still in my wonder nine phase and regret many things from that time. Like a Winchester Big Bore in .375 around the same time for another smoking good deal. I think he said I could have either one for $500. Pardon me but I have to go bash my head against the wall for a minute since I remember this event yet again.

Re: Working on a new "modern" thumper .
Fine ...... I hate to show stuff that may be months from ready .
It's no H&H but it isn't what I'd call ugly or misshapen.
A little action action. The smudges are sharpie from the stock fitting
The flat bottom metal was the right price ,that and the finish wasn't mentioned (or asked about) in the deal.
I'll have right around $400 in it depending on sights and moulds including those and dies I guess just under 300 in just the rifle .

Now life is much better! Thanks for taking the time to post the pictures. That definitely looks like it is going to make one sweet 358 Win!

I knew the cat would make it happen!!!
Honestly I quite like that and am more than a little envious. You have been really lucky/smart with the various parts purchases and you sound like you know what you are doing in putting it together. And I really like the curved turned down bolt handle. Small things like that make a gun more special in my eyes.
All I can think in my head is that gun or a new one that's full of plastic everywhere they can hide it. I would want that gun...
