Plated Bullets in M1Carbine

Post by bayou »

Hi, All -

Has anyone reloaded M1 carbine rounds with plated bullets? I just picked up a small lot of 110 grain plated 308 bullets. My typical carbine load is 14 grains of Win 296.

Should I expect any fouling? Or no?

Has anyone got any experience using plated bullets for the carbine?

Thanks, bayou

I've sent 500 Barry's plated bullets down range with zero probmems. However I used 2400 and didn't push 'em. The beer cans didn't care. :P

Thanks, daboone. I've been reading thar it might not be a good idea to push the plated bullets over 1400 FPS. So, I'll stick with the FMJs for the carbine. Velocities may be in the 1900 FPS range.

Bayou,

My experiences match Daboone's with the M1 Carbine and Berry's bullets. That said, I bought a group buy 125 Grain flat base boolit over on Cast Boolit years ago. It fits the bore of most carbines much better than plated/FMJ and is much more accurate. I'm sure they have an even better design now.

In case you don't cast, it's overall much less expensive than buying bullets and the boolits are generally deadlier on game.
