Did those 150 round noses work for you?

Yes, they worked out pretty good but I just haven't had time to give the rifle the workout that it deserved. I think the Speer #2017 is about the only bullet designed with the 300 Savage's short case neck in mind. By not adding a cannulure, they gave it a bit of utility for use in other cartridges as well.



With the bullet seated at 2.580", it is exactly .001" off the lands of my 110. Need to get a better picture of this rifle with the scope.



It does look like what you are using is going to be good to go for your rifle!

Thanks, that good to know as there is just not much out there any more.

For my 110, I have Basix trigger coming to replace the tough to adjust early 110 trigger and a custom mold on order with Lee. It will be a TLC310-150-RF. It is similar to my 7.62x39 except it is not a bore rider.

Have you put these 150 hot-cor round noses in any critters yet? My store had that bullet in stock as well as the SST for the 300 savage, but figured Id come home and do a little more research first. The Speers were $26 and the Hornady $34... But I can get over run 165 Partitions for $34 at shootersproshop.com and I know they shoot well in my rifle so the SST's are out.

No I haven't but my friend has through his 308 Win. As it turns out, they did not work out well in the 110 as it has a extended throat. The rifle is a "WLE" 1000 of which were manufactured in a mix of 250 & 300 Savage and 7X57 Mauser. The long action vs short was used in response to customer requests of a longer throat length so that heavier bullets could be used with increased overall lengths. Apparently as far as the 300 Savage is concerned, it is setup for 165-grain spitzers to 180 grain round noses.

Until I found the info on this model, I wasn't sure what was up with the rifle as the throat was .040" (I think I remember that correctly) too long. I went through the work of removing the barrel and rechecking the headspace when threading it back. It was setup as it should be.

In that it has the long throat, my 165-grain cast bullet doesn't work. I intend to try my 180-grain 308 Win bullet but just haven't got to it yet. If it doesn't work, I will sell the rifle. I did buy a 1949 Rem 722 in 300 Savage that look like it was never outside the gun cabinet or safe. It is shooting great so it kind of occupies my 300 Savage time.
