I do too. It seemed to me that the 223 has a lot of baggage.

So, I wanted to see for myself how it would work.

A .224" diameter, 65gr Sierra SP at 2900 fps was used for my test. Six out of six times it worked great. For me. For my situation.

Just another data point to add to the 223 controversy.

Up for next year's "Enough Rifle" test will be either a 223 AI or a 6mm TCU. I'm thinking that a 24" barrel with a 223 AI may be able to push a 75 gr bullet at 2950 fps. 1000 ft lbs at 250 yards.

Or maybe I'll experiment with my 308. Right now I'm thinking that the 165gr Sierra Gamechangers load I've worked up may be too tough and just punch on through. I think I need to use something in the 130 - 150 gr range.

I have a sub I load that will haul a 1000 ft past 250 yd .

It's now much is delivered as much as how it's delivered .
Id bet hard money that the terminal performance of a 270 BTSP 150 wouldn't look anything like a BTHP 154 out of a 280 . Neither of those are going to be even vaguely familiar when compared to 158 SWC from 35 Whelen .
All at the same MV , 2700 fps , all at 100 yd .

These spirited conversations result from Maine saying whitetail may be taken with a 25 ACP and Georgia saying hunt boars with a hafted spear while Nevada requires an OAL greater than 2" of 22 cal or larger that produces at least 1000 ftlb at 100 yd for any big game .
Just a Red neck,White boy, Blue blood American.....
