New Gun, Beretta Mod. 81

Post by mikld »

Well, I dun did it agin! I was looking in a forum and one member started a thread on his Beretta Mod. 81. Hmmm, interesting. I did some web research and it looked like a fun gun so, I bought one (I think I gotta give my credit cart to my wife!). I got an Italian made, used police turn in, at a good price and it is in very good condition, but 32 ACP (7.65)! I just brought it home yesterday so today I'm going to disassemble it and clean it up. The good/bad part of getting a new gun in a new caliber is now I have up tool up for a new caliber. Still researching 32 ACP components and dies and load data (some loads are tiny, like W231 loads from 2.1 gr. to 2.3 gr.).

While I enjoy new guns and new reloading adventures, this has gotta stop! (nah!)...

Great gun to pick. I have one I picked up at a gunshow about a year before the surplus 81's hit the market. Was I unhappy as mine is not in as good as condition as what I am seeing of the surplus guns that came over and I paid a bit more as well. But I am still happy with it as it is a sweet shooting little pistol with a really nice trigger. I am sure you will enjoy it. I am on the fence as to get dies to reload for it.

I love the cartridge! Fun & cheap to shoot and with the right bullet, I don't have a problem depending on it for self defense. I shoot a cast bullet of my design. You probably already have a powder it will work with. By mistake, I had bought a pound of Clays and I swear that after a lot of shooting, it's refilling the jug on its own.

Here is a project I thought about a couple of years ago, I haven't been able to get to it, using a Lee round ball. I haven't decided on the powder yet, so the image shows the H2O volume.

This little cartridge begs for a progressive press! It's nice having the Load-Master handle cases and bullets. The Auto-Drum is the way to go for powder delivery.
