Old Metal powder dipper 30-06
There is an old red and black box Lee Loader in 30-06 with the rare metal powder scoop for sale on Ebay right now. Looks to be in very good to excellent condition and reasonably priced as of right now. Just a heads up in case there is a collector out there or someone just wanting one of these sets. I have no dog in this fight as I already have one. james

Is it the first one, or the second one?

The second one has a plastic dipper.

Fixed it. Were there three different plastic dipper colors -- black, red and yellow?Fyodor wrote:The second one has a plastic dipper.

I put in a bid for the plastic dipper lee Loader and left the metal dipper kit for a "collector". I read the thread and realize I don't have a 30-06 Lee Loader! Gotta have one...

The Black and Red dippers are the same size, just a difference in years and they are in Cubic Inches. The Yellow ones are the newer (since about '78 or '79) and they are in Cubic Centimeters. The older metal scoops were listed as a number and letter combo (like 12 M in this case) and in the following years when they went to the C I dippers in the kits, the charge cards would say something like "This powder measure is the same as the old 12 M size".

Re: Old Metal powder dipper 30-06
Well, since I bought the 30-06 loader with the metal powder measure, I have found 2 more (30-30 and 357) and bought them both. I use mine, they are not a collector buy. As far as I know, the metal powder measure was only made one year (1963). If anyone has information to the contrary, please share with us. I don't know why as the plastic measures will do just as well as the metal ones but there is just something about the metal one that trips my trigger. I just recently passed on a 6.5x55 one with the metal measure but the price was just way over the top. Another guy bought it and seemed happy. james

I have another metal dipper loader on the way. .45acp/ar. Just couldn't help myself. I may end up exactly where I started in 1962, loading with the Lee Loaders only. james

Actually, that is why I hold on to all of mine. There will be a day where I don't shoot much anymore but the components will still be on hand from all that I have and I will not want to give up the art of reloading.LeeJames42 wrote:I have another metal dipper loader on the way. .45acp/ar.
