Maybe after 73 years my nose is as shot as some of the rest of me, but I don't notice an objectionable oder with Balistol. I started using it with the BPCR guns and moved on from there. I find it's great when shooting old surplus with corrosive primers. The leather and wood looks pretty good also.

Balistol to me smells like spring time ... sort of. I use it mixed with water (a 1 to 6 ratio I think) for patch lube for my muzzle loaders. It cleans BP residue fairly well too.
As mentioned previously I had used WD40 to lube my reloading presses but before using the VPJ I tried Balistol. Worked ok but was collecting dust and debris like the WD.
