Remington 600 ~ 35 Rem Making Me Crazy!

I appreciate it Kaiser, but I'm good! I just have come down from the range, this has worked out very well. I actually want to shoot the round nose bullet as with our grass and brush, it is sometimes needed.

I believe these are the only .358" 200-grain bullets offered. The spire point's base, length aft the cannelure, is too long for the short neck of the 35 Rem. They are in stock at Duck Creek, but after scaling the bullets to .358" with on-screen calipers, the base just was not going to work. I'm depending on all of the capacity of the case being used.

With the 43.0-grains of H335, I saw 2445 FPS. There were no high-pressure indicators, but as soon as I walked into the house, I took two Advil. This lightweight rifle is not a range gun! I will have more of a report soon. I'm going out back to set up a "hide" to get to some large hogs in the next day or two. This Remington combo is asking for a hog kill'n!

With the 43.0-grains of H335, I saw 2445 FPS.

That's moving. With a 20" barrel on a 358 Winchester I got 2534 fps with 48.0 grains of 3031 and a 200 gr Hornady spire point. That same combo with a 200 gr Hornady round nose was 2437 fps.

I checked my records and using a .348 orfice (Size S drill bit) in a Hornady lock and load comparator my 205 grain cast Max's out at 2.090 on the 760 chamber. That is comparator length. I couldn't find the land diameter for the 35 Rem and that is the closest bit I had below .358. My finished round is 2.080. Using this setup, I wonder what is the max on your 600.

Here is a 200 grain made by Dominion (Canadian Industries Ltd.) in the 1950's. It has a C.O.L. of 2.508. The specs on the box say it has a muzzle velocity of 2210 FPS and a ME of 2170 FP. Sighted in at 150 it is 2" high at 75 and 5" low at 200.

Yeah, pretty sporty for an 18" barreled 35 Rem!

I was shooting 1-grain increments and I would have been happy with 2400 FPS. The 42.0-grain load of H355 saw 2398 FPS with a better group. I think I will explore, say, 41.8 through 42.8-grains, .2-grain increments to see what happens.

The SAAMI spec bore diameter is .349", which should be encountered at 2.0493 from the breech bolt face (see bottom drawing, last linear reference).

Thanks RD. I wasn 't far off at. 348. A little work with some abrasive paper and I will be right on. I know about SAAMI drawings just never clicked this time.

I dropped a .349" pin gauge into the chamber and then marked a cleaning rod at the muzzle. I already had a mark at the breech bolt face. 2.085". I'd say that the 600 & 760 has the same cut.

BTW, contrary to popular wisdom, I have been able to successfully use a collet die for this rifle. This may be because of the really shallow shoulder and/or the relatively mild loading for the cast bullet. Our previous discussions on the caliber and the information you sent previously has me planning to secure some jacketed projectiles so I can explore faster powders and higher velocities. Haven't made up my mind yet on bullet profile and weight so this thread is really interesting.
