@9x80Drilling
Afaik Carl Bock was a gunsmith in the city of Frankfurt am Main and enjoyed a fine reputation.
The Nosler .323 PT is my favourite bullet for 8x57IS. It flies and performes very well.
I load it with 45grs IMR4895 for my Heym SR30 "Keilerbüchse" 8x57. The "Keilerbüchse" has a short barrel (50 cm) and the powder is completely burned, when the bullet leaves the barrel. This reduces muzzle flash - I mostly hunt in the dark.
Do you have a picture of the Gebrueder Kneifel 9x80 hammer drilling ? I don't know this cartridge and will ask my old hunting buddies about it.

Hi,Macd wrote:Also load 8x57 for an old 1944 DOT Mauser. I have lapped out both molds and sizer to .325-.326 to account for throat and barrel wear. I am toying with idea to have a 9.3x62 barrel put on the action.
9,3x62 is a popular cartridge in Germany. Rebarreling with a new Lothar Walther barrel would cost about $500-600. Due to legal provisions in Germany, most of the work must be done by a gunsmith.
How much in USA ?

Just picked up a Mold, to start loadin for a 8x57
do you use a gas check ?
We have a bullet manufacturer in Germany, which is called Haendler und Natermann. They produce swaged lead bullets and they copper plate and coat! them afterwards.
For the 8x57IS, they produce a .125 grs and a 190grs bullet. With 16grs Unique behind, the 125grs can be accelerated up to 560 m/s, the 190 grs can be loaded with 15grs N110 for about 350 m/s.

Re: Hello from Germany
New barrel is from $160 (Zavasta) to $270 (E.R. Shaw). The local gunsmith quoted $200 to remove old barrel and install new one. Bluing is extra. I may go for a cerrocoat instead. BTW I am in Canada but I expect prices would be comparible in the USA.Südhesse wrote:Hi,Macd wrote:Also load 8x57 for an old 1944 DOT Mauser.
