VihtaVouri N32C (TinStar) load data?

Post by Fyodor »

Hi forum,

Because of accessibility reasons, I want to change my CAS loads from TrailBoss to TinStar powder. even if TinStar is a powder specifically designed for CAS, for some reason they don't give much data for the relevant calibers.

Does anyone here have some experience with this poswer, and can help me getting load data for my loads?

The loads I need are:
  • .38spl with 158gr round nose lead
  • .45Auto with 200gr round nose lead
  • and in the future also a .44/40, were I'm still free to choose a bullet
It would be great if somebody could help me find data for these loads. You guys know the US-WWW better than me.

Cheers,
JR

The following link lists Vihtavuori load data for .38 Special:

http://www.vihtavuori.com/en/reloading- ... cial-.html

Starting load is listed at 4.2 gr and max load is listed at 5.6 gr.

Thanks for the link!

I have checked the German version of the page, and there I didn't find the bullet weight I was looking for.

But even if 44-40 is a very common CAS load, they don't show data for that cartridge at all. :( And no data for .45Auto with TinStar.

I also checked loaddata.com and didn't see any published data for 44-40 or 45 ACP using N32C (TinStar).

Are you able to find Alliant Red Dot or Promo shotgun powders in Germany? If so, they can be used in 44-40 and 45 ACP.

Hope this helps!

I'm not sure if I could get those powders. But because of our limited storage allowance I try to use only on type of powder. And because I'm a big fan of Poka Yoke, I also want a powder that makes double charges physically impossible. I've been using trailboss, but that is nearly impossible to get now. My last buy was four cans (totals one kilo, or two pounds), and I had to drive over an hour one way. That was beginning of last year, and I haven't seen any trailboss since then. Tin star also is a bully powder, that gives the security of impossible double loads. But because it's a European brand, is far easier to get. That was my thoughts behind that choice.

Have you tried sending them an email or calling them to see what they have to say.

I've found load data for all three rounds using VV-N320 -- if that's an option.

VV-N340, VV-3N37 and other VV powders may also work...

Thanks, but I don't want to loose the Poka Yoke advantage of the powder, and as far as I know, these are not as bulky as TrailBoss or TinStar.

I would stay with TrailBoss, if I was able to get some more of it... but in the other hand, today I was at my dealer, and he didn't have TinStar also... it's a misery, US powders are nearly impossible to get, and all the European brands don't ship right now because of a new EU directive, making it illegal to sell, transport or use powders without a matrix code, that identifies each individual can (!) of powder all the way down to the customer. This directive becomes active in April, and the infrastructure to achieve this is not to be seen within near future. And since it is illegal to ship powder to end customers, it doesn't even help when I learn about a store that keeps my brand, if it is too far away.

I want to live somewhere else...

Sorry to hear that, and I complain about our restrictions. I guess in this moment you help me be more thankful for my freedoms.
