Round Primer Tray Feed Gate

I quickly decided I didn't like spilled primers when I tried to insert the round primer tray in the primer feed on my Pro 1000 so I conjured up a fix.

You can also just buy the new foldable ones, but it's difficult to use a wire to stuff the primers in the chute back up into the tray on them.

Drill a hole sideways through the neck of the primer tray and insert a piece of wire in the hole. It holds the primers in until you're ready for them, then just pull the pin out. If you drill it as I did, it will clear the primer feed and the lid fine.

I used a piece of 14 gauge solid copper wire for the pin. It's about .063 inch diameter, so a #50 or 51 drill is about right. Other sizes and materials will work too, just don't drill the hole so big that it weakens the tray. You also have to use care to drill accurately.

BTW, in case you're wondering about the spent gutted primers in the tray, I figured they were safer to futz around with than live primers while I was testing this thing out.

Nice bit of Yankee ingenuity. I did something similar. Kind of hard to see but I'll post this anyway. I used a small strip of aluminum and epoxy to create a "spring".

Because I didn't like spilled primers neither, I solved that problem too, but a different way. No additional part needed, and just a sawblade for the mod:

When my press/bench is not in use, I like to have all the explosive/flammable items out of the presses and off of the bench, safely stored in drawers or cabinets.

I stuff all the primers in the primer feed chute back up into the primer tray with a curved wire tool I made for the purpose, and reinsert the blocking wire in the tray. I can then remove the primer tray, with primers still in it, and place it in the drawer, safely off the bench but instantly ready for the next loading session. I guess I'm obsessive about details like that.
