Loading bench top surface

Post by Tim Stapp »

When the temps get out of the teens and twenties, I'll be building a new loading bench in my shop. It will be 2 ft. deep x 8 ft. long. It will be framed with 2 x 4 lumber, fastened to studs at the left end and back side. Front will be 3 2x4s glued and screwed together for a 3-1/2" x 4-1/2" torsion beam. The entire thing will be topped with 3/4" plywood.

My intention was to top the plywood with masonite. However, while getting other things at the big box store, I ran across a product called Homasote. http://www.homasote.com/applications/hobby

Has anyone ever topped a bench with this?
