Deluxe Perfect Powder Measure Modifications

Post by berdan »

I decided I would try to address some of the short comings of the Lee DPPM I have noticed and others have pointed out like FortuneCookie45LC on youtube. I read about people polishing the chamber and decided to give it a try, I found a very reasonable compound kit on aliexpress https://www.aliexpress.com/item/3256802 ... 18029SZniV

Using some of the contents from all the different tubes but 2, removed about 75% of the factory finish and smoothed it to almost as fine as Lee gives us.

I noticed that the some of the molded parts from the Lee Auto Drum were a direct swap. I got another sleeve outlet guild (link below) and put it in the DPPM, this in my mind should should keep any powder from hanging up in the die or body and allow an already great throw to be better. The second thing this does is allow the drop die to be threaded in to a desired depth, with a simple o-ring between the body & die. A gripe of many & FortuneCookie45LC of the DPPM is that the threaded drop die is too short and can't easily be used on some presses. Now we can.

This also comes with a hopper adapter, this batch was much tighter than the one that came on my DPPM, I no longer have to worry about the powder hopper just falling off the DPPM as I did before, another trick is to pinch the top of the DPPM in a vise slightly to oblong the slack out.

I also got a Lee Auto Drum selector gear in hopes to tighten up the throw on the lever, this is my only point of contention with my DPPM still. I have tried jamming tooth picks in between the lever and sprocket that the brass drum rotates on. (not ideal)

Has anyone figureed out a way to get a solid throw on the DPPM without the slop?
