New site formats...

Post by mikld »

I just stumbled on the third forum that I like to frequent that has go to the "New Age" configuration. Miami Vice color scheme, not user friendly navigation, just make it more difficult to read and navigate (looks like a second year female design student's design). Is there someone buying all these forums and converting them to the new format? All are ugly and difficult to navigate...

Not an old school, conspiracy theory goof, anti-technology caveman, just a user that doesn't appreciate the "New Age" look for a gun/shooting/reloading forum. I really like the Lee Loader forum but if it goes New Age, just color me gone...

A new update someplace has forced me to phone form in spite of multiple preference selections .
2 of 5 of my regular haunts now bump me out of edit mode for posts every time I hit the return so to paragraph I get bumped out twice before I can continue .

I guess that's just the price for such advanced tech .....

This is probably what the forum will look like until I die.

I 100% quit Marlin Owners when they changed recently. I don't mind a change once and a while but their change had two "developments" I don't like.

1) The log in process is much more unfriendly
2) View new posts since last visit vanished

On a side note, they have way more jokes and political posts than anything I care about anyway.

While the format of this forum is clean and easy to navigate what I really appreciate is the absence of devisive political and social comment. I have quit a dozen gun forums because of that type of content.

I'm not sure what forums you're referring to but I wouldn't be surprised if the changes are to optimize viewing on a phone rather than a computer. And if you're old school like me and use a computer for your browsing you may well find that what is best for the phone is not the best for the computer.

The 1911 Forum was the last I deleted. Content is the same, but color scheme and navigation have changed drastically. It appears all these new forum designs are done by the same design company as all are very close to the same New Age look with Miami Vice pastel color scheme and user "unfriendly" navigation (looks like it was designed by a first year art/design girl student)...

1911 Forum is owned by Second Media Corp. Most active forums end up being bought by media corporations for their advertising efforts. Shooters forum was a good example about 10 years ago. Not worth going to now.
