Reloading supplies

Post by horseman »

Found out some interesting information last Tuesday. Went to the Tri-Cities (Pasco, Kennewick, Richland, WA) to do some shopping and stopped in a couple of the bigger gun places to look for powder. Mainly looking for Power Pistol, AA#7 or (now) Hodgdon 800x, any one of them. Nope, nadda. While talking to the manager of the gun selling part (in one of them) he told me the State had come into the store back a while and told them they had to much powder on hand and had to "reduce" their inventory. I do not recall the amount (in pounds) they could not exceed but when they (State agency, whoever that is) went nuts when they saw what was in the back storage. He also told me that in Washington state it was "illegal" to sell 8lb containers of any powder. When I told him I had more powder in MY powder locker than he had on his shelf (and I do) he said don't let the "State" find out, you'll be fined and the powder confiscated.... %@*&$....... There was more to the conversation but that was the jist of it. True or false I have no idea, but I do know that store USED to carry a lot of powder, a bit expensive but they had pretty much anything you wanted.

(WA State Explosives Act - CTRL+F find "smokeless" for applicable info)

https://app.leg.wa.gov/rcw/default.aspx?cite=70.74.340

Personal use - 25lbs (50lbs in approved storage magazine - max by state law)
Commercial - 75lbs on the shelf (1lb containers only), 150lbs in approved storage magazines only.

4/8lb can be sold, but cannot be on the shelf/displayed.

Most of these laws have been around since the 80's or earlier ..

Same rules apply here but they are federal.. The other issue is I had to advise my home insurance that I keep powder in my house.

Texas is only concerned with the storage of black powder; 25 lbs at a private residence and 50 lbs at a commercial business.

I sold all the black powder I traded for to get 2400 in a lot when 2400 wasn't available.

Wait. It's still not.
