What I Am Doing Today

Post by GasGuzzler »

Mentioned in another topic I was replacing pistons in a Malibu. Well I did not get my parts yesterday so here is what I'll start assembling today.

So, what powder and charge are you going to use?

Awesome dude! I doubt I could get it apart. I know I could not get it back together!

Looks like fun.
What's that assembly with the two spool-looking things?

And here I am waiting on just a pair of magnetos to get my riding lawnmower running. That's about all of the wrenching I care to do these days...

Those are the slide hammers, plate, and stand-offs required to remove the injectors and rail (still attached to the tool in the picture). This is a direct injected gasoline engine with a turbocharger that operates basically like a diesel running on gas with spark plugs.

From this picture until running, the job took seven hours. Total was 15 and GM pays 10.9. Mitchell on Demand labor time guide pays 21.0. Yep, warranty pays HALF.

Thanks for the info. No wonder some dealers try to deny warranty claims.

I used to do that sort of stuff when I was working for a living so when I retired I stopped. I guess I got used to using proper equipment (lifts, trans jacks and all the appropriate hand and power tools) and using a "Mexican creeper" (a piece of card board) at home gets really old. I didn't even tell anyone I was an Auto/Heavy Equipment Electrician, I'd just say something like "I worked on cranes"...

I never let anyone know I was an airline pilot. I didn't want the locals speculating on how much money I made or how much time I wasn't out at the ranch. I told those that asked, that I was a "heavy equipment operator." That seemed to satisfy everyone. Now when someone finds out, the question is "how long did you do that?" My answer is "41 years". They get this weird look as if I played them but good.
