That Nasty Grease They Pack Rifles in....Dunno how to Spell It...
Anyone Know a better way to Clean It out other then Gasoline and a Brush?

I was told by an old Army Master Sargent that they used to boil water in a 55 gallon drum and through the metal parts in.

I've used non-chlorinated brake cleaner, as I recall it took 3 large cans to clean up a SKS.

Boiling water works particularly for barrels. Diesel fuel and kerosene are safer than gasoline. Parts cleaner, the type they use in garages will do a good job also.

I should mention that hot water and Murphy's Oil soap is what I use on wood. I asked a Milsurp dealer and he uses a oil drum cut in half lengthwise filled with water and a pressure washer degreasing detergent. The mixture is brought to boiling for the metal components. After a good boil everything is blow out with compressed air and dipped in rust preservative. The wood is warmed and spray washed in a spray booth. The Russians particularly used a reddish varnish like finish on refurbished arms. If you are interested in maintaining authenticity be careful not to use anything that will remove the finish.

Yup, boiling water. MacD hits on a VERY important point, that is diesel & kero over Gas.
Diesel & kero also leave a "Bit" of rust prevention behind. Notice I said a "Bit" ???
